Wikipedia is a multilingual free internet encyclopedia open to everyone that is composed by numerous authors who do this voluntary. These can be?scientists, hobbyists, students, experts and people with good general knowledge. Anyone can contribute to Wikipedia, anonymously. There is no limit to the contributions.
Wikipedia was founded in 2001 and is now owned by the Wikimedia Foundation, a non-profit foundation. Wikipedia is a real wiki, a web page or site on which users can make adjustments in an easy and accessible way. The Dutch version had more than 1.6 million articles in in June 2013. Wikipedia has little rules, and has no censorship, but still maintains some basic principles which are very important to?make sure?no texts violate copyright. In addition, the diverse users (known as Wikipedians) strive for the greatest possible objectivity. All items have so?called “talk pages” to discuss the ambiguities or bottlenecks in the content.
The police regions of the city of The Hague?and Central Holland had a special police wiki that sorted web 2.0 concepts and bundled new contents. For many incididents and disasters Wikipedians report and are keen at doing it fast these days. The Wikipedia page of the Dutch Queensday after the attack in 2009 had all relevant information online the very same day, even before the official press conference was held. Also in New Zealand a new Police wiki is being prepared by The Ministry of Interior Affairs. They want to use a wiki, so that every citizen could have a say about new laws.
