Accessory?to a Facebook Murder?

A public prosecutor asked for an open trial, because it concerns a very serious and shocking case. Winsie Hau was stabbed at the street in front of her home in Arnhem?(the Netherlands). She later died from her injuries. The 15 year old boy who could have done it, could have done so on behalf of Winsie’s best friend Polly (16). Polly and her 17 year old boyfriend from Rotterdam are suspected of incitement to murder. Winsie supposedly was to be intimidated because she was telling intimate things about Polly.

“The cause of this serious crime seems to originate from a very small conflict,” the public prosecutor said. “This has created a massive shockwave.” The 15 year old boy from Capelle aan den IJssel, who was said to have stabbed the girl, is in juvenile detention and undergoing psychological tests. He is being accused for the murder of the girl and an attempt to murder her father.

Polly’s boyfriend denies having anything to do with the murder. He points to his girlfriend as the ordering party. She is said to have used social media accounts, including Facebook, to give the kill order and express several threats. However, the public prosecution claims the boy himself has also been actively involved in the preparation of the crime. Polly also denies that she provoked the murder. She points right back to her friend, who would be more of a criminal than he pretends to be. The three suspects are in custody.

The cause of the murder were rumors that Winsie spread on Facebook about Polly and the whole situation ended in an online fight. Polly would thus become so angry that she told her boyfriend she would wish Winsie dead. This boyfriend then came into action and asked a friend and they agreed that he would get about one hundred euros to do something about Winsie.

According to the judge , they all were ultimately guilty of incitement, but in the end they are not all found to be accessory to the murder.
