veendam12Groningen police have used Twitter?to send to and receive information in a quick and easy way from citizens on a series of arsons that had Veendam in its grip in 2010. She hopes that the golden tip will lead to the arsonist they’re looking for. Police hope to receive new information in new ways that she had not received before using the classic ways. Especially the youth who lives behind a screen and is an interesting target group.
The popular YouTube is also used. The police show a surveillance video that was made when a fire in a store took the life of a firefighter. The recordings of the surveillance camera in the center of Veendam have been processed to create a film that is now posted on their?YouTube-channel. Groningen police suspect that the accused shown in the video is involved in arson. And although the surveillance video reveals little, tips from people who claim to recognize the person could still come out. In May 2010 after the film had been viewed 48,000 times a first suspect was arrested .
