to_protect_and_to_serveThe topic Big Data is ‘hot’. Big Data can be used to make information more transparent and usable, to support decision making, and product and service innovations. In addition, we currently find ourselves in the middle of a process in which a new balance is sought between a government that strengthens and supports citizens through Big Data, and forthcoming social boundaries.

In this study six existing Big Data concepts are described that can contribute to a better service for citizens either directly or indirectly (these concepts are Profiling, Predictive analytics, Social media monitoring, Omnichannel customer contact, Semantic Web, and Process mining). For this study, inspiring examples from industry and (experience) experts have been included. Considerations are also described regarding social, organizational and technical matters.
